55 GANSEVOORT is pleased to announce the opening of "Ashley Carter : Tilt", on view from June 27th through July 15th, at the gallery's storefront location.
Carter's sculptures record and suspend moments of dislocation in materials, images, space and perception. Construction materials, which have been left half-assembled or presented in transit, literalize the constructed nature of space. These structures support and contort the interdependence of weight and value.
Ashley Carter (born New York, NY) received her BFA from California College of the Arts and her MFA from Columbia University in 2013. She has exhibited in New York and California. Carter has an upcoming exhibition in Detroit and will be an artist-in-residence at Real Time in Space in December 2014.
The exhibitions at 55 GANSEVOORT are entirely visible, at all hours, by peering through the windowed doors.
